The hulking ship arrived in Monterey June 18 and is leaving tonight.
Monterey Interim Harbormaster John Haynes says the city doesn't do much to solicit cruise ships coming into Monterey Bay, but adds the passengers "bring revenue to the city without congesting the city with cars."
According to the city's website, eight more cruise ships are slated to come to Monterey in 2017. All will arrive in the fall, and will only stay one day.

I'm always concerned about cruise ships in the bay. I once got a bad stomach virus after surfing while a cruise ship was in Monterey and I've heard stories of other surfers experiencing the same. Of course, nothing is verifiable regarding the source of our illness, but I've always wondered how healthy it is for our bay to have such monstrocities sitting in the water. Someone told me they can dump sewage only a few miles from the coast.
I owned a canoe, once !
