New evacuation warnings have been issued for communities in Arroyo Seco as the Soberanes Fire continues to burn. Evacuation orders have also been given for Tassajara Road, starting from Chews Ridge to Tassajara Hot Springs.
According to a press release from the U.S. Forest Service, the Soberanes Fire has burned 105,705 acres since it started on July 22. The fire is active on the ridge above the North Fork of the Big Sur River, two air miles west of the Tassajara Zen Center and above Lost Valley Creek, three air miles southwest of Arroyo Seco.
U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Iveth Hernandez says the fire is under three miles from Arroyo Seco.
“The weather has been warm and winds coming from the west,” she says. “We are using all firefighting support we can in that area.”
The weather is the biggest factor for the fire’s progression going forward.
“The weather is very patchy throughout the fire area, which means we cannot use the same firefighting methods throughout the burning areas,” Hernandez adds.
There will be a community meeting at 6pm tonight at the Arroyo Seco Fire Station at 46700 Arroyo Seco Rd.
On Tuesday, the fire's command will be taken over by the California Incident Management Team.
