Almost every day for the past several weeks, anxious fans of Alvarado Street Brewery have stopped by the new production facility in Castroville to ask when its taproom would open. Now there is a date: Saturday, Nov. 7.
The taproom has been ready, tempting those who peered through the windows with its sleek styling while the brewery waited for final approval from California Alcoholic Beverage Control. The production facility has been in operation since August.
Alvarado Street has dubbed the combination of bar and brewery as The Plant. The BrauKon brewhouse system is circular, allowing the team to go from milling grain to brewing to kegs and cans in almost one motion, with dramatically increased capacity.
“We’ve brewed more this week than a typical month,” Alvarado Street owner J.C. Hill said on Oct. 22 as he waited for the go-ahead. “We’ve been so behind.”
The bar features 18 taps plus a sharp pour system that is distinct from the traditional draft tap, capturing the effervescence and aromas of a beer under a creamy foam cap. Outside there is a beer garden served by food trucks. Guests can also take home canned beer.
Doors open on Nov. 7 from 1-9pm. Sabor Latin Fusion will be the truck on hand, with a DJ from 3-7pm.
Starting on Nov. 7, the bar will be open five days a week, Wednesday through Sunday.
Alvarado Street Brewery’s Castroville facility is at 11440 Commercial Parkway.
