Incumbent Seaside Mayor Ian Oglesby (left) is facing off against Councilmember Alex Miller for the mayor's seat in the Nov. 3 election.

Since he began fundraising for his mayoral campaign earlier this year, current Seaside City Councilmember and mayoral candidate Alex Miller has raised approximately $68,000, more than five times the incumbent mayor, Ian Oglesby, according to the latest campaign finance disclosure forms.

The majority of the funds raised were given to the Miller campaign in the first reporting period spanning from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2026, when the campaign raised about $40,000 in cash and $5,000 in non-monetary contributions. The campaign spent about $18,000 in the same span.

Among the roughly 55 donors during that first reporting period, the largest contribution came from Poe’s Plumbing owner Scott Poe, who donated $5,900 to the Miller campaign, which is the maximum amount allowed by state law. Other large contributions were made by Melanie Scherer of Pebble Beach, who donated $2,500, alongside her husband Richard Scherer, who also gave the campaign $2,500. Retiree Art Chatoff of Los Gatos gave $5,000 to the campaign.

Self-employed Carmel resident Brent Sepulvado contributed $4,198 and Yen Zhao of Saratoga gave $1,000 during the first reporting period. Miller’s campaign also received $5,000 in non-monetary contributions from Maligne Restaurant in Seaside for a fundraising event.

During the second reporting period spanning from July 1 to Sept. 19, the Miller campaign raised about $13,500 in cash and $4,000 in non-monetary contributions from O’Callaghan’s Irish Pub in Carmel for a “Food for Countdown Rally.” Among the large contributors during this period are retiree Olivia Heathcote of Los Gatos, who gave $5,600 to campaign and the Livermore-based Sheet Metal Workers Union, which gave $3,000. During the second reporting period, the Miller campaign spent just more than $33,000 for a total of $52,000 spent from Jan. 1 to Sept. 19.

In the latest reporting period, spanning from Sept. 20 to Oct. 17, the Miller campaign received about $6,000 and spent about $8,500. Since Jan. 1, the campaign has spent about $61,500 and has a remaining cash balance of roughly $4,000.

The campaign for incumbent Seaside Mayor Ian Oglesby has raised about $12,600 and spent about $10,000 year-to-date, according to the latest campaign financial disclosure statement.

According to the documents, Oglesby entered the mayoral race with about $4,000. In the first reporting period from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2026, Oglesby’s campaign raised $3,500 from seven donors and didn’t report any expenditures. In the second reporting period, from July 1 to Sept. 19, the campaign raised about $4,100 and spent about $6,200, with about $4,350 spent on billboards and yard signs.
