A rumor that's been circulating for months has just been confirmed: In a statement sent out this morning, Pacific Grove City Councilwoman Casey Lucius announced she will be running for U.S. Congress, vying for a seat currently held by 23-year incumbent Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel.
“It’s time to step up with new ideas and a new generation of solutions,” Lucius says in the statement. “The traditional clash of ideologies has resulted in stalemate and non-representative government. The nation and the Central Coast should be represented by a person who can energetically lead and moderate, not follow partisan dictates.”
Lucius, a Republican, resigned from her position at the Naval War College at the Naval Postgraduate School June 1 in order to comply with federal regulations that restrict federal employees’ political activity.
Farr, a Democrat, has been a popular politician locally over the years, and was voted "Best local politician" in the Weekly's annual "best of" contest this year.
