Two separate wildfires are burning in the southern sections of Monterey County.
The Soberanes Fire is now joined by the Chimney Fire, which started on Aug. 13 on the south shore of Lake Nacimiento near Paso Robles. The blaze has burned nearly 25,000 acres and moved across county lines, threatening the Bryson Hesperia community, putting them under evacuation orders, according to Cal Fire.
According to the San Luis Obispo Tribune, the fire is a few miles east of Hearst Castle in San Simeon and crews are working to back burn the surrounding area today.
There are 2,700 firefighters working to stop the fire, which is 35 percent contained. It has destroyed 48 structures.

Dry and drought-stressed timber, chaparral and grass in the steep inaccessible terrain continue to challenge control lines. The fire continues to move north and west in steep terrain and drought stressed vegetation.
Up north, crews continue to battle the growing Soberanes Fire on the southern front in the Los Padres National Forest. On Saturday, firefighters planned to back burn from North Coast Ridge Road in attempt to halt the fire's growth, but weather conditions were not ideal.
The fire has burned 83,830 acres as of Sunday, Aug. 21.
