Joshua Alfaro complaint

The Monterey County District Attorney filed a complaint against Joshua Alfaro, AlisalCAN’s executive director, for child molestation.

Alisal Union School District announced on May 30 that it is suspending its contract with Alisal Community Arts Network, a non-profit organization that has taught different after-school programs in the district. This happened a day after the Monterey County District Attorney filed a complaint against Joshua Alfaro, AlisalCAN’s executive director, for child molestation.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the District suspended its contract with Alisal Community Arts Network,” said Superintendent Jim Koenig in a statement.

According to the nine-page complaint, Alfaro faces seven felony charges for child molestation. The court document alleged he molested three kids under the age of 14. The earliest alleged molestation happened in 2018 when Jane Doe 1 was 9 years old; the latest happened this year in April and May against Jane Doe 1 and two other minors.

AlisalCAN was in charge of music, color guard, cheer and mariachi programs at AUSD and was the district’s contractor for several years. AUSD is looking for a provider to maintain these after-school programs.

Alfaro was arranged on May 27, where he declared himself not guilty. The judge set his bail $2.75 million.
