On Friday, Sept. 19, Alisal Union School District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening ceremony for Alisal Community School, a new version of the oldest school in the district.
The school was originally built in 1936 and has been under renovation since 2020 with funds from Measure M, a $70 million bond voters approved in 2016 to renovate ACS and Fremont Elementary.
The ACS reconstruction had two phases. The first one started in 2020 with the construction of a two-story building with 23 classrooms, a media center and a library.
The second phase has a $16.5 million price tag. It began in 2023 with demolition of the nearly 90-year-old building followed by the construction of a new building that hosts administration, 12 classrooms—which includes the youngest students in transitional kindergarten or kindergarten—a play area, and more.
The second phase concluded in the spring and has been in use since the 2025-26 school year started on Aug. 5.
