Peter B's BrewPub (649-2699) can claim itself as the only craft brewery in Monterey.
You can make a pretty good case that they have the best happy hour (4-7pm seven days a week), growler-to-go program, mug club and seasonal beer program in the area. They are the first and only Silver LEED brewpub in the country. Now they've even added beer yards and a line of bottled beers appearing in places like Whole Foods soon.
And they're not tapping out there.
Today they debut a new food menu from Exec Chef Jason Giles to go with the ambitious suds from brewmaster Kevin Clark.
"The update was inspired by the challenge to keep the food at the same quality of the beers," Giles says. "We wanted to be more than brewpub food, but a lot of gourmet items."
The crab-and-jack-stuffed pepper and new meatball plates sound incredible; the buffalo chili adventurous; the fact that a few old favorites remain comforting.
Then there's the beer cocktails, like the "Spiked Stout" with añejo tequila and Kahlua.
Whoah.
Talk about a place unafraid of a little pioneering.
Here's a look at the lineup.
Giles recommends the 50/50, BTW, four little kebabs with 50 percent applewood bacon ground with 50 percent Angus chuck and served with a hot and sour Fresno chile sauce:
