Roasting temperatures are expected across the Central Coast and the Bay Area. A heat advisory is in effect until Sept. 10 at 10pm.
The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures between 90 and 105 degrees in inland areas and mid-70s to low 90s in coastal areas.
According to the NWS, temperatures today, Sept. 9, are 5-10 degrees higher than yesterday. The Pinnacles National Park and Bradley had triple-digit temperatures on Sept. 8 with 101 and 102 degrees, respectively.
Residents should limit outdoor activities and drink plenty of water. To cool off from the higher temperatures, South County cities have shared their cooling centers, stations and hours of operation. Residents can also go to their nearest Monterey County Free Library branch; many have air conditioning.
Gonzales
Community Center Conference Room, 650 5th St. Noon-5pm Wednesday, Sept. 9.
Soledad
Soledad Community Center, 560 Walker Drive. 11am-6pm Wednesday, Sept. 9. It operates as a cooling center when temperatures are over 95 degrees. Check-in required.
Greenfield
City Hall, 599 El Camino Real. 8:30am-4:30pm. Air conditioning and water refill.
Greenfield Community Science Workshop, 45 El Camino Real. 10am-6:30pm. Cold water and air conditioning. It operates as a cooling center during business hours and when temperatures are above 90 degrees.
