Two men have been arrested by Monterey Police after they reportedly stabbed each other inside the Blue Fin Café & Billiards on Cannery Row early Saturday morning.
According to a press release from the Monterey Police Department, around 1:21am officers arrived to the corner of Cannery Row and Prescott Avenue where they found 40-year-old Joel Robledo of Salinas suffering from stab wounds. He was transported to Natividad Medical Center in Salinas.
Frank Guzman II, 27, of Castroville, was also stabbed; he was driven by a friend to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. From there, he was transported to Natividad, the county's trauma center, for medical care.
Guzman was booked at the Monterey County Jail and charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with gang enhancements. His bail was set at $1 million.
Robledo was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday and booked at the Monterey County Jail. He is changed with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with gang enhancements and probation violation. His bail was set at $1 million.
Monterey police believe the men to be members of rival gangs from Castroville and Salinas.
The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
This is the second violent crime incident in the Cannery Row neighborhood in the past two weeks. A man was shot around 1:41am on Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving during a busy tourist week. He later died from his injuries. Police have identified Jorge Luis Mendoza, 21, of Salinas as a suspect. Mendoza, a validated gang member, is currently on parole for assault with a deadly weapon after being released from prison in May 2016.

CHOMP needs a trauma center NOW.
As someone that lives much of the year in Chicago, don't let sentiments surrounding the need for better education, the availability of better opportunities or concerns about violating civil liberties stand in the way of implenting every method, law or technology available to combat the threat from gang life and behavior. The apologists and judicial system in Chicago have allowed it to destroy the security and quality of life for many neighborhoods. Be determined and relentless.
