A suspect who hit two Seaside Police officers with a slingshot is recovering after an officer shot him during a confrontation on Fremont Boulevard and Playa Avenue on Monday, May 13.
Seaside Police Chief Nick Borges announced on social media that the suspect struck two officers in the head with projectiles as they attempted to deescalate the situation around 9am. But the man “continued to be aggressive and violent toward officers,” which led to an officer firing their weapon at the suspect, according to Borges.
The suspect and the officers were transported to a local hospital, and all are expected to survive, Borges said.
It is unclear what led to the confrontation between the suspect and police. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office is leading the investigation, while a third party will investigate the officer-involved shooting.
Fremont Boulevard was shut down between Ord Grove Avenue and La Salle Avenue for hours as the investigation unfolded.
Anyone with information is asked to call Commander Justin Pascone at 899-6748.
