Soledad landlord agrees to settlement over Tenant Protection Act violation.

A Soledad landlord will pay $30,000 in penalties after the Monterey County District Attorney's Consumer Protection Division resolved a case against Mi Tierra Linda LLC in early January.  

According to a statement from Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine Pacioni, the owner of the apartment building located at 150 Encinal St. in Soledad agreed to a settlement by resolving multiple violations, which included failing to maintain workers’ compensation insurance, failing to test for asbestos and hiring unlicensed contractors to perform renovation work. In addition to the $30,000 penalty, the landlord is subject to an injunction prohibiting further violations. 

The case began in 2025 when the District Attorney’s Office was informed that the landlord had issued eviction notices to apartment complex tenants without just cause, according to the office. That is a violation of the state’s Tenant Protection Act, which protects tenants from exorbitant rent increases and unjust evictions. When the DA’s Office reached out to the landlord, he rescinded the notices, but further investigation resulted in the discovery of the additional violations, according to the DA.

Representatives from Mi Tierra Linda LLC did not respond to a request for comment.
