Brush blazes

Low winds have helped the firefighters cause by preventing embers from leaping to new groves.

As of 7am Tuesday, news is quiet from Big Sur, which is a good thing.

The Red Cross has informed us that a client services center will be open today from 10am to 7pm at Fernwood Resort.

Cal Fire's website, meanwhile, is crashing, presumably due to too much traffic.

The latest update from officials is that at least 500 acres have burned and that it is 5 percent contained.

There is also official word that 15 to 20 homes have burned.

The number of firefighters on site has also grown, to 625.
