As the Tassajara Fire raged on Saturday evening, CalFire officials ordered residents along Tassajara and Cachagua roads to evacuate.
The evacuation area runs from Carmel Valley Road, which remains open, to the intersection of the two steep, windy roads in where they meet in oak woodlands.
The Red Cross is providing quarters at Carmel Middle School, located at 4380 Carmel Valley Road, for families that are displaced by the fire.
The Tassajara Fire is 10-percent contained and has burned some 1,200 acres, as reported earlier Saturday by the Weekly. It has destroyed at least four structures.
The fire was first reported at 3pm Saturday, just 25 minutes before the Laureles Fire, off Laureles Grade at Highway 68 was reported.
That fire had burned 95 acres and was 60-percent contained as of 8pm, according to CalFire.
