Bring on the huevos and hash, pancakes and parfaits, migas and mimosa kits.

jeninni kitchen + wine bar (920-2662) now does robust brunch 9:30am-1:30pm weekends on Lighthouse in Pacific Grove.

The goodies include huevos y migas ($9.50), lamb-potato cakes ($9.5), spiced sausage hash with fried egg ($13) and polenta French toast ($9).

One definite highlight: the plain, coconut and Nutella Niño Gordough donuts ($4).

Other fun items include a strong menu of Acme coffees ($2.25-$4.75), brunch cocktails (like the Red Medusa with tomato juice, Petrov and pickles, $7), harissa sauce ($1.50), churros and chocolate ($9), Benton's bacon ($3.5) and the aforementioned mimosa kits with a bottle of Josep Masachs Mas Fi Brut Cava (Spanish bubbly) and a choice of orange, pomegranate, white peach or blood orange juice accompaniment ($29).

More food news nibbles follow:

• Here’s a first for around here: a wine dinner in a liquor store. Smart money says it’ll be fun because Ryan Sanchez is running it and Surf N Sand (624-1805) in Carmel is unlike most liquor stores. Sanchez has helped run Bruno's Market, his own Corral de Tierra Market, organized major tequila tastings and launched his own tequila brand El Jefe. Franciscan Winery will do the vino, pairing five wines with five family-style courses. Winemaker Marla Carroll and sommelier David Haney will attend. It happens 6-8pm Thursday, Jan. 21, atop red-and-white-checkered tablecloth, with Sanchez working on live music ($49/person, RSVP 624-1805)

• Surf N Sand has other atypical Third Thursday events in the works, including a Jelly Belly tasting seminar, bacon-and-bourbon tasting, beer-and-brauts tasting, tequila-and-tacos and more to come.

• The Fungus Face-Off on the deck at Ventana Big Sur ($60) 1-4pm Saturday, Jan. 16, with a dozen chefs creating their best wild foods, highlights the 2016 Big Sur Foragers Festival, coming up quickly.

• One of the coolest meals in a month, and year, filled with them: restaurant-car lunch on Amtrak Coast Starlight, with exclusive views of the coast and a downright decent veggie burger on the plate. A minor reason it's a great way to get down the coast south or north by rail.

• It's not on the menu, but the carnitas chimichanga ($10.25 with rice and beans) at Jose's Mexican in Seaside (899-0345) is profound comfort grub. The seasonally appropriate soup specials are doing well, including the avocado-laden tortilla soup ($4.95) and the albondiga (or meatball, $6.95).

• Former Affina and Casanova chef James Anderson is taking a break from formal dining to get after other projects. That includes helping Joey Nguyen with the downtown Monterey Poke Lab project that has everyone drooling and what Anderson calls "a mobile concept of my own which could he ready by summer."

• Hyatt Carmel Highlands has begun a promising reinvention-merger of popular Pacific's Edge, California Market

• Life hack alert: You do not need a membership card to buy beer, wine or spirits at wholesale prices at Costco in Sand City.

Jack Bauer coming to Fox Theater in Salinas (758-8459) this very month with a group called the Kiefer Sutherland Band, Jan. 21.

• A rather mesmerizing @TEDx talk about a liquor time machine, delivered by Salinas' own Bryan Davis of Lost Spirits, is up on the blog.

• Thanks to everybody who pitched into the epic MC Gives! nonprofit push, which reached $3.127 million at midnight Dec. 31. Postmarked donations continue to pile up.
