Books and chocolate go together, apparently.
Scott and Jennifer Lund of Lula’s Chocolates at The Crossroads Carmel recently purchased their neighbor across the way, River House Books, from the retiring Diane and Gordon Simonds.
What do reading and binging on fine chocolates have in common? Well, not too much—other than the sense of community bestowed by both.
“Having a brick-and-mortar bookstore plays a vital part of a community’s well being,” says Jennifer Lund. “It is a place to pause and reflect. Books indeed feed the mind and the soul.”
Actually, the same has been said of chocolate.
Scott Lund shows off some of the wares at Lula's Chocolates. He and his wife Jennifer will soon add books to their line.
The Lunds take over operations on May 1. Before then, the location will host a retirement celebration for the Simondses, on April 28 at 5pm—complete with refreshments.
“Gordon and Diane Simonds built a beautiful bookstore,” Lund says. “We feel honored to keep River House Books open and although we can’t fill the shoes of Gordon and Diane, we will do our best to keep River House Books thriving as a place for all of us to treasure.”
That may put to rest any question as to the future plans for the place. The Lunds enter with the full intention of maintaining the bookstore, with Lula’s in sight, tempting readers.
Oh, and there’s Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting next door, as well.
“It really is the perfect area, isn’t it?” Lund observes.
