In a heartwarming act of community togetherness, the Valley Heritage Quilt Guild has donated 50 handmade colorful dignity scarves to the residents of Mee Memorial’s Skilled Nursing Facility. This donation offers a practical and cheerful alternative to traditional clothing protectors, bringing both comfort and dignity to long-term care residents, according to a press release from Mee Memorial.

The idea blossomed at the guild’s 2025 summer retreat when members Kris Nicolson and Sharlene Hughes each crafted a scarf. They envisioned creating enough scarves for every resident in Mee Memorial’s Long-Term Care unit.

“This was truly a project of love,” said Debby Norman, a guild member involved in the initiative. “We are so grateful to have the skilled nursing unit at Mee Memorial. We’re excited for the residents to start using the scarves, to see their reactions to the vibrant colors, and to gauge how many more will be needed in the future.”

The project progressed through several dedicated workdays held at Grace Church across from the hospital. Members from the guild cut kits, sewed, and donated unused fabrics and dedicated workdays held at Grace Church across from the hospital to make the scarves.

Unlike traditional protectors, the dignity scarves rest comfortably without snaps or ties and feature cheerful designs that brighten mealtimes. The scarves represent more than utility; they embody the guild’s commitment to combining quilting artistry with community service.

The Valley Heritage Quilt Guild encourages new members, regardless of experience, to join their mission.

Members meet monthly at King City Bible Church.

“We invite community members to learn about our guild and participate in future projects,” Norman said.
