King City’s Mee Memorial Healthcare System is getting recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the 100 critical access hospitals to know for 2026.
The annual national list honors rural hospitals that are expanding access to care, reducing patient travel and driving technological innovation. The development of this list is based on nominations, followed up with research by Becker’s.
Mee Memorial has more than 1,200 employees and is the only hospital within a 50-mile radius. It also houses 25 acute care beds and 48 skilled nursing beds. It’s a primary health care provider for the rural communities of South Monterey County as it also has a clinic in Greenfield.
“Our team works hard every day to ensure patients in our rural communities have access to the care they need close to home. This acknowledgment speaks to the commitment of our employees, providers, and leadership team to the people we serve,” Rena Salamacha, CEO of Mee Memorial Healthcare System, said in a statement.
The organization is focused on community outreach, engaging the broader community with diabetes education and initiatives because diabetes has been pinpointed as a significant community concern.
