Starting Saturday, May 23, 2026, local bus transportation provided by Monterey-Salinas Transit will undergo numerous service changes, which generally occur a few times a year to respond to seasonal travel patterns, road conditions and other changes suggested by customers and employees, according to MST CEO Carl Sedoryk.
“Transit ridership in Monterey County is influenced by the highly seasonal nature of our population and where they need to travel,” Sedoryk says. “For example, during the summer months we see big increases in tourism, hospitality workers and agricultural worker travel, but decreases in high school and college student trips over the summer months, so we implement a service change around Memorial Day.”
The service changes include a new outbound bus stop in Pacific Grove at Sinex Avenue and Crocker Avenue, which will be served by Line 1, Pacific Grove via Asilomar. On Line 7 (Monterey to Ryan Ranch), bus stops 2186 (at Olmsted Road and Highway 68) and 2118 (Garden Road and Olmsted Road) have been removed due to airport terminal construction.
Line 32 in Soledad will experience a minor route adjustment. From East Street and Market Street, service will operate via Dixie Street to Palm Avenue.
Some minor schedule changes will be made to Line 23 in King City and the 23X King City Express. According to a release from MST, “Several trips have been added to address overcrowding and, together with Line 84 changes, will provide several direct trips from Salinas to Paso Robles without a transfer.”
Service cancellations include Line 25 from Salinas to CSU Monterey Bay, which will be suspended for summer break beginning Monday, May 18. Service will resume on Monday, Aug. 24.
Line 40 (Salinas to Rancho Cielo) service will be suspended on Friday, June 12, 2026, until it is restored on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The route from Hartnell East Alisal to West Alisal, or Line 47, will also be suspended for the summer season from Monday, May 25 to Monday, Aug. 24.
In addition, the Monterey Trolley will begin service and operate daily from 10am to 6pm through Labor Day.
