Greenfield City Council approved changes allowing RVs and trailers to be parked on private property, but living in them—including connecting to sewer and electrical service from the primary home—will remain prohibited under the new ordinance.

On Oct. 27, the Greenfield City Council voted 3-0 to allow recreational vehicles, trailers and boats in front and side yards on private property.

These vehicles could be on private property as long as they do not block public right-of-way, don’t block entries and exits or emergency access. (People living in RV’s won’t be allowed).

For months, the City Council has discussed making changes to its RV parking ordinance. In September, the council directed staff to review the ordinance and make it more specific, adding that parked vehicles shouldn’t impede access to entrances and exits.

Chief of Police Guillermo Mixer supported the changes, noting they would alleviate parking congestion.

The ordinance follows a successful recreational vehicle pilot parking program that the city implemented in 2024 to alleviate parking congestion on city streets.
