Eighteen-year-old Daniel Castillo died Sunday morning after he was shot multiple times at close range.
Castillo was the second young man who was murdered in the neighborhood in the past three days. On Thursday evening, 25-year-old Arthur Bravo was killed with a single gunshot. People near the scene were unable to specify a time when the shooting might have happened, as there were fireworks going on at the time, according to the Salinas Police Department.
Bravo was shot on Acosta Plaza, and Castillo on the corner of Kilbreth Avenue and North Sanborn Road, just a block from where Salinas PD recently installed a surveillance camera after witnesses to an officer-involved shooting a block away told officers they were being intimidated against cooperating.
In the melee of a crowd that had originally assembled to protest the May 20 fatal shooting of Carlos Mejia by two Salinas Police officers, 23-year-old Constantino Garcia was shot and killed near Del Monte Avenue and Mae Avenue.
On Friday night, 33-year-old Abelardo Rodriguez was shot multiple times on Acosta Plaza. Officers found him sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle, and Rodriguez was stabilized at Natividad Medical Center, then life-flighted to a Bay Area trauma center, according to police.
Detectives are seeking witness cooperation and ask that anyone with information on any of these crimes call 758-7145.
