Soberanes Fire

A firefighter lays out hose on the top Corona Road above the Carmel Highlands on Sunday afternoon.

7PM UPDATE: The wildfire was 10-percent contained and burning 16,100 acres.

As Soberanes Fire enters day four, conditions are not looking favorable for firefighters.

As of 8:30am, the blaze continued to burn 14,897 acres, at 5-percent containment, and high temperatures, low humidity and steep terrain continues to challenge fire efforts.

Since flames began to consume Big Sur land, 20 homes and two outbuilding have been confirmed destroyed.

And more and more residents have been mandated to evacuate their homes.

Here are the mandatory evacuation orders: The communities of Palo Colorado, Rocky Creek, Weston Ridge Road (also known as Garrapata Ridge Road),  Old Coast Road from Highway 1 to Bixby Creek Road, and Garrapatos Road are all required to leave their homes.

Softer evacuation warnings have been issued for residents in the communities of Carmel Highlands, south of Rancho San Carlos, White Rock and Old Coast Road south from Bixby Creek Road to Little Sur River.

Carmel Middle School (4380 Carmel Valley Road, Carmel-by-the-Sea) is open as a shelter for evacuees.
