Rainfall, high winds, thunderstorms and the potential for flooding are in the weather forecast this Christmas.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Monterey and San Benito counties, in effect from 10am Tuesday, Dec. 23 through 10pm Friday, Dec. 26. Weather officials predict rainfall of up to 1.7 inches on the Monterey Peninsula on Tuesday, 1.6 inches on Wednesday and 1.9 inches on Thursday, Christmas Day. The forecast includes the potential for thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

There's also a high wind watch, with gusts in excess of 60mph forecast for King City on Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. Gusts exceeding 50mph are predicted along the coast for Big Sur and Point Pinos. The forecast reports "very hazardous, impactful winds Tuesday through early Friday along our entire coastline and higher elevations inland with power outages likely." 

According to the marine report, beaches and oceans will be hazardous through the week as well. "Seas build through the week and will be very hazardous to mariners with the potential for wave heights in excess of 20 feet," according to the forecast.
