Police Tape

Seaside Police and the Solidarity Network in Monterey County announced Wednesday, July 9 that there was U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity in the city.

“ICE agents conducted an operation in Seaside this morning, resulting in the arrest of an adult male,” Seaside PD’s statement said.

According to both organizations, the detention was a targeted one, meaning ICE agents are following a list of people who have criminal offenses or have been previously deported.

Since April, there have been ICE targeted detentions at various cities in Monterey County, including Greenfield, Salinas and Seaside. The previous confirmed ICE operation county-wide was in Greenfield, according to the Solidarity Network. One man was detained early morning on his way to work on July 2. In Seaside, the previous ICE activity was on June 21.

“We wish to reassure our community that this was not a sweep and the Seaside Police Department was not involved,” Seaside PD’s statement said.
