Losing an election might hurt enough, but now Secretary of the California State and Consumer Services Agency Anna Caballero is getting fined for campaign finance filing errors in 2010.
The California Fair Political Practices Commission will consider a proposed $1,000 penalty against Caballero at a June 20 meeting.
Caballero, formerly an Assembly member and Salinas mayor, lost in her 2010 bid for State Senate against Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres. She and treasurer James Santos filed late campaign finance reports for some $825,000 in campaign expenses, according to a report by FPPC Enforcement Chief Gary Winuk.
Caballero was appointed to Gov. Jerry Brown's cabinet in 2011, but due to the governor's plan to realign state bureaucracy, her job will likely go away come July 1.
Facing that uncertainty in Sacramento, Caballero is considering a run for Monterey County supervisor.
