With the Timber Fire in Big Sur approaching 4,000 acres and evacuation orders in place, organizers of the annual Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance decided to redirect traffic.
The event features classic cars slated for show at Concours d’Elegance traveling a course along the coast from Pebble Beach to Big Sur, this year scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13. On Tuesday, Concours officials announced that a new route was being plotted. Wednesday morning, they released a new map taking cars away from Big Sur.
“We quickly came to this decision because we don’t want to impact the efforts of firefighters in any way,” said Concours Chair Sandra Button in a statement.
The new route takes cars from 17-Mile Drive to Highway 1, running northeast through Monterey to Highway 68, returning to Pebble Beach via Olmstead and Aguajito roads.
Cars will begin the tour starting at 9:30am. Further announcements will be posted to pebblebeachconcours.net/updates.
