Rain is a-coming to the Central Coast tomorrow and through the weekend, with varying rainfall totals throughout Monterey County from 1 to 3 inches.
In an early morning update, meteorologists at the National Weather Service’s Bay Area office, which is based in Monterey, write, “a classic atmospheric river is in full display.”
Right now, that atmospheric river is flowing over the North Bay, inundating it with rain—NWS reports that yesterday, Nov. 20, Santa Rosa recorded the second wettest day in 120 years. Santa Rosa’s airport saw a staggering 7.07 inches of rainfall in 24 hours.
This particular atmospheric river won’t hit nearly so hard locally, but according to NWS, writing about the Central Coast, “Your time will come on Friday as the cold front finally pushes through and brings more widespread impacts.”
There’s nothing unusual about this weather system, though locals are advised to be mindful of high surf, and there’s a small chance of thunderstorms and hail. And the elements should be gusty.
This incoming storm marks the first notable storm of the season, and with that being the case, roads are sure to become slick as residual oils on the roads from vehicles are washing off the asphalt.
While the atmospheric river is expected to end on Saturday, rain is expected Sunday and light rain is likely at times for much of next week.
