Jovanni Alejandro Reynoso and Yudiana Tinajero Aguilera are suing the city of Salinas for injuries they say they sustained in a collision involving a Salinas police officer on Oct. 26, 2024.
According to court documents, Reynoso and Aguilera were on their way home, traveling east on East Market Street around 12:30am when Officer Steven Villaneda, who was on duty, struck their vehicle at the intersection with Williams Road.
Villaneda was allegedly driving at high speed and failed to yield the right of way, the documents state. Reynoso and Aguilera claim they suffered serious injuries and vehicle damage as a result.
They are seeking an amount exceeding $35,000 in damages.
HHJ Trial Attorneys, the firm representing Reynoso and Aguilera, did not respond to a request for comment.
The Salinas Police Department and the Salinas city attorney declined to comment, citing pending litigation.
