Lightning in a Bottle made its Monterey County debut last year at San Antonio Lake Recreation Area on Memorial Day weekend. (I described it as what would result "If Burning Man and the Electric Daisy Carnival conceived a love child—perhaps while submerged in Esalen’s hot springs.")
It went so well, that the multi-sensory gathering of the tribes is set to return to the otherwise-sleepy town of Bradley on Memorial Day Weekend (May 21 - 25, 2015).
In a press release, organizers convey some upgrades made to the five-day experience: "additional large-scale shade structures, upgraded boutique camping packages, bigger installations and a new festival layout design to ease and enhance everyone's LIB experience."
2014's lineup of over 75 music acts blew Seaside-based DJ Hanif Wondir's mind: “I've been to a lot of these festivals and this lineup is best I've seen,” he said. "At a lot of these festivals, Burning Man included, you have to walk five miles to find a DJ you really like. Here it's close.”
2015's lineup of more than 100 music acts aims to outdo 2014: Australian trip-hop producer phenom Flume, British post-dubstep producer Aaron Jerome's SBTRKT, Animal Collective co-founder Noah Benjamin Lennox's solo project Panda Bear and hip-hop favorite Zion l, represents only a small sample.
After his first LIB experience last year, the Weekly's Mark Anderson called the event a "greater collaborative victory: Summoning a sweeping city of structures, world-class speakers (human and soundmaking), vendors, artists and musicians from the San Antonio Lake dirt in the space of just weeks, driven by some 2,000 staff and volunteers, musicians not included."
Sounds like a good time to me.
