Salinas Police Department Officer Brian Jimenez-Gomez has been charged with one felony count of possession of child sexual abuse material. He was booked on May 18.

The complaint against 25-year-old Jimenez-Gomez, a resident of Salinas, shows an offense date of Oct. 1, 2025. A statement from the Monterey County District Attorney's Office states that the charges do not allege Jimenez-Gomez physically abused a minor or created the child sexual abuse material. In addition, investigators are not aware of any local victims.

The San Jose Police Department investigated the case and stated that “there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.” Jimenez-Gomez was placed on administrative leave by the Salinas Police Department in 2025 when the agency learned of the allegations against him, according to a statement by Salinas Police Chief Carlos Acosta.

"In the interest of transparency and accountability, we immediately referred the investigation to the San Jose [Internet Crimes Against Children] Task Force," Acosta said.

"We understand the seriousness of this matter and the impact it may have on public trust. When misconduct is alleged, it will be thoroughly investigated and addressed appropriately. The Salinas Police Department remains comitteed to holding all employees to the highest standards."

If convicted, Jimenez-Gomez would be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and faces a sentence of probation, 16 months in state prison, or a maximum sentence of two years in state prison.

The Weekly was unable to reach Jimenez-Gomez; no information about his defense counsel has yet been entered into the court system.
