A family member reported that an adult relative, an inexperienced swimmer, had not been seen for about 20 minutes and was last observed near the shoreline at Lake San Antonio South Shore.

Park Rangers immediately began searching the shoreline and surrounding area and requested assistance from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, including the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, to conduct an underwater search.

After searching the area, the dive team was unable to locate the missing person before search operations were suspended for the day.

On Monday, Aug. 10, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Monterey County Park Rangers resumed search operations utilizing multiple exploring techniques, including sonar. After several hours of looking, the missing person was located deceased in the water, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Unit responded and took custody of the body, although proper identification is still pending.

The beach area and Beach Road in Lake San Antonio, South Shore is closed until Wednesday, Aug. 12, according to the County of Monterey webpage.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office did not respond for comment to Salinas Valley Now.
