King City resident Omar Tellitud Chavez, 42, was shot and killed after suffering a gunshot wound on North 2nd Street and Lynn Street in King City, near the Hartnell College campus, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.
In the early hours of Sunday, Aug. 23, King City Police officers responded to reports of gunshots near the Hartnell College satellite campus. When officers arrived they located Chavez suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Paramedics immediately responded, but despite efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The homicide remains an active and ongoing investigation by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office and investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact Detective Erik Schumacher at (831) 755-3796 or Detective Sergeant Nicholas Kennedy at (831) 755-3773.
No additional information is being released at this time.
