A 12-year-old boy riding an electric bike was hit by a vehicle the night of Wednesday, July 8 on the 200 block of East Street, according to Soledad Police.

When officers got to the scene, they found the boy with injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel quickly arrived at the location and the boy was sent to a Bay Area hospital.

Officers say his injuries are non-life-threatening. The person who struck the boy with their car is cooperating with the investigation and the incident remains under investigation.

“E-bikes are subject to many of the same traffic laws as bicycles and motorists alike. Riders should always wear a properly fitted helmet, obey traffic laws, remain alert and avoid distractions while riding,” said the Soledad Police Department in a statement.

“Parents are encouraged to discuss safe riding practices with their children and ensure they understand the rules of the road. Motorists should remain attentive, reduce speed in residential areas, and be prepared to safely share the roadway with bicyclists.”
