202 Monterey St, Salinas, CA 93901, (831) 783-1140, www.thebakerystation.com
Walking into The Bakery Station is about as close as you can get to being teleported to 1955. The aroma of all the different freshly-baked breads, mixed with the fruity sweetness of a fridge case filled with colorful tarts, parfaits and even frittatas and cakes makes you wonder if you're still in Salinas. The sandwich portions are gargantuan and you never leave feeling hungry, unless you're taking your food to-go. In that case, you'll leave far hungrier than when you walked in.
