A 32-year-old father of two was shot and killed while driving through Seaside on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Seaside Police Chief Abdul Pridgen, just after 1pm officers were dispatched the parking lot of Seventh Day Adventist Church where they found Tremain Calloway, who lived nearby.

Calloway was driving north on Yosemite Avenue near the Del Monte Manor apartment complex when he was shot. He then drove his car through a nearby fence and crashed into an embankment in the church parking lot. He died a short time later.

Police say there is no information on a suspect yet.

Outside the church parking lot, dozens of friends and family gathered, crying and holding each other. Many people gathered around and embraced Calloway’s mother, Sharon Johnson, to comfort her. She says her son was about to be married.

Another woman, who asked not to named, says Calloway was a great community member who helped harried parents get their kids to and from school.

"He would give you the shirt off his back," the woman said.

Shortly after the shooting, Seaside schools went into lockdown while police investigated the active crime scene. Highland Elementary and the Seaside Children’s Center were on lockdown while students, teachers and staff at Martin Luther King Elementary and the Monterey International School sheltered in place.
