A: Helping out a neighbor with his raspberry field. It was really hot and the little needles from the berries would get into your fingers.

Water Way: Going to the beach. In Carmel, you could always swim in the lagoon. Once we rode a log down the river into the ocean.

A: Corn detasseling in Minnesota, where you walk the corn fields for miles. The 100-percent humidity was the worst part.

Making a Splash: Doing can openers down the high-diving board. It was all about trying to get the lifeguard wet.
