The youth summit will offer hands-on workshops where teens will learn about topics such as financial literacy and cooking.

Gonzales, Soledad and Greenfield youth councils will host their third Annual South County Youth Summit at the Dennis and Janice Caprara Community Center in Gonzales on May 2.

The event is led by students for students and it brings teens, organizations and community leaders together. The goal is to empower the next generation.

This year's theme is: “Beyond the Diploma.” Students will learn about different pathways they could follow after high school, including college and trade school.

The event includes a resource fair, interactive workshops, giveaways and lunch.

In the workshops, attendees will learn about teen driver safety, financial literacy, cooking and healthy meal prep.

Last year, the summit drew more than 100 teens, and this year they are expecting up to 140.

The event is on Saturday, May 2, from 9am-2pm. The last day to register is on  Friday, May 1 by 11am. It’s free and teens can register online
