On Sept. 19, Congressional candidates Casey Lucius and Jimmy Panetta participated in a debate hosted by the Weekly at The Press Club in Seaside. Both are vying for the seat being vacated by long serving Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel.
The debate, moderated by the Weekly's interim editor, Sara Rubin, covered a wide range of topics from immigration and foreign policy to combatting climate change and congressional dysfunction.
While Panetta's stance on the issues is solidly rank-and-file Democrat, Lucius, a Republican, does not support either Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump or Democrat Hillary Clinton. She also bucks her party's orthodoxy on global warming, abortion and immigration.
Both Panetta and Lucius found common ground on many issues, but the two didn't mince words when discussing each other's qualifications for office.
The full debate is also available on the Weekly's YouTube page (the video is from the live stream, sound and video quality are not optimal).
