The P.G. Meetinghouse at 599 Lighthouse Ave., formerly P.G. Juice & Java, plans a ribbon cutting for its newly renovated bar at 4:30pm on Friday, March 6. The Type 90 liquor license from the state allows for the establishment to serve cocktails two hours before a performance, during and one hour after the performance.
“We didn’t see profit keeping a coffee shop open late at night,” says General Manager Val Martin.
The former coffee shop has been renovated and updated on the inside. Martin says there was approximately $100,000 of work poured into it. Updates include new interior lighting, new furniture and a new bar built where the old coffee bar used to be. Liquor bottles on shelves behind the bar decorate the wall and a black grand piano is in the middle of the space next to the fireplace.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will include a performance by pianist Michael Martinez, followed by the Chicano rock and soul band the Mystic Souls. Festivities are expected to continue until 10pm. The coffeehouse will be open 7am until 1pm, then will close before the music begins.
