A Seaside elementary school teacher was booked in a Santa Clara jail Wednesday on charges of possession of child pornography, according to the Seaside Police Department.
Nathan Forstell, a physical education teacher at Martin Luther King Elementary School, was arrested by the San Jose Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, says Sharon Albert, spokesperson for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
San Jose police arrested the 44-year-old teacher after searching the man’s San Jose home and finding evidence of child pornography, Seaside police say.
The teacher lives in San Jose on the weekends and with family in Monterey County on the weekdays, Albert says.
Forstell started working at the school at the beginning of the 2012 school year, Albert says. He worked at the Alum Rock Union School District in San Jose as a substitute teacher from 2008 to 2011, Seaside police say.
This morning school and county officials met with a group of about 60 parents to answer questions, Albert says.
"MPUSD is committed to the safety of our students," says a letter on the school’s website.
