Salinas police still on the hunt for Halloween house party shooter.

Salinas police are still searching for the suspect responsible for a shooting at a crowded house party on Halloween night that left seven people injured, including one who remains in critical condition.

Police responded to the incident on the 300 block of Chaparral Street, near North Salinas High School, shortly before midnight on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Salinas Police Department spokesperson Brian Johnson says a 20-year-old male remains in the hospital in critical condition, while six other victims—ranging from 15 to 24 years of age—were also shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say they have yet to identify the assailant, believed to have been the sole shooter, though they have received “good leads” from witnesses at the scene as well as video evidence, according to Johnson. 

Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred during a conversation between two men at the party in the home’s backyard. One of the men pulled out a gun and began firing; the other man was the 20-year-old male now in critical condition. Police believe the shooter was not targeting other individuals and that the other six victims were hit by stray bullets.

More than 100 people, including adolescents, were at the party, which quickly dispersed in the wake of the shooting. Johnson says the people who own and live in the home where the party was held are cooperating with the investigation.
