Peter Le abruptly resigns from MCWD board.

After serving on the Marina Coast Water District board for just more than three years, Peter Le announced his resignation from the board Jan. 4.

The announcement came after the board had a special meeting Dec. 29 where elections were held for chair and vice chair. Until that date, Le had served as vice chair for two years. 

According to fellow board member Jan Shriner, several motions were made that failed on 2-3 votes. The motion to finally pass was made by sitting chair Howard Gustafson, who motioned for him to retain his position and for Tom Moore to become vice chair. 

That motion passed 3-1-1, with Le voting against and Shriner abstaining.

Shriner expresses disappointment Gustafson was reelected chair, and that Le resigned.

"I would prefer to have a president who is cooperative and diplomatic, not combative and aggressive," she says.

As for the sudden news of Le's departure, "I was very disappointed and kind of eviscerated when I found out Monday," she says. "Everyone loses out, including voters."

Shriner says the board, which next meets Jan. 11, has 60 days from Jan. 4 to appoint a replacement, and whom has to voted in by at least three of the four sitting board members. 

If the board fails to meet the deadline, the County Board of Supervisors will take over the appointment process.
