Pacific Grove residents and business owners have until July 15 to weigh in on a proposed sewer fee hike to help fund repairs to the city's aging and faulty sewer system.
The city of P.G. recently mailed its sewer customers a form allowing them to protest the proposed sewer fee increase in writing. If more than 50 percent of them do so, under the state's Proposition 218 process, the fee increase can't happen.
The Pacific Grove Residents Action Committee, a registered political action committee, funded a second mailer landing in ratepayers' mailboxes this week. PAC member Luke Coletti says the mailer cost several thousand dollars, though he declines to specify the total amount.
The enclosed "call to action" urges ratepayers to protest the fee hike. Also in the PAC's mailer: a letter from the Monterey Peninsula Taxpayers Association criticizing the fee hike, along with a Prop. 218 protest form.
The public protest hearing happens 6pm Wednesday, July 15 at Pacific Grove City Hall., 300 Forest Ave., P.G.
