Hillary Clinton to visit Salinas Wednesday.

Hillary Clinton will make a campaign stop in Salinas Wednesday as she makes her pitch to voters in the final weeks of the presidential primary election, which happens on June 7. 

For months, Democratic operatives have been talking about bringing Clinton to Monterey County for a fundraiser, but ended up getting something different: a free get-out-the-vote event that will be open to the public. 

The time and venue are yet to be determined, but a team of planners for such an event are in Salinas today scouting potential sites, including Hartnell College, where Clinton spoke during her failed 2008 presidential bid against Barack Obama.

"Bill Clinton is doing Highway 99, and Hillary is doing Highway 101," says Shawn Bagley, a member of the National Democratic Party. (Bill stopped in Delano Sunday night, and is scheduled to speak in Fresno Monday night alongside UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta, who is endorsing Hillary.)

Bagley has been gunning for a for a Clinton visit for months, and says the public event is even better than an exclusive fundraiser. It also means his task is to find 100 volunteers by Wednesday, rather than finding large donors to make a fundraiser visit worthwhile. 

Bagley, who ran unsuccessfully for State Senate against Sen. Anthony Cannella, R-Ceres, in 2014, is also a superdelegate to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia in July. 

There are seven delegates up for grabs in Congressional District 20 (currently represented by Sam Farr, D-Carmel, who is retiring).

Those seven delegates will be apportioned for Bernie Sanders or Clinton based on how they do at the ballot box, with one delegate for about every 15 percent of the vote. 

Two superdelegates—Bagley and Farr—can cast a vote in Philly for a candidate of their choosing, regardless of what voters decide. Bagley has long been committed to Clinton, and plans to vote for her at the convention. Farr is not planning to attend the convention this summer, but has endorsed Clinton.
