Bonhams opened the game of auction pinochle earlier this month, announcing its move from The Quail to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca during Car Week. On Wednesday, Feb. 18, Broad Arrow made its move.
The auction house announced a partnership with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, after four years linked to the exclusive Motorlux event. Broad Arrow will hold auction days on Aug. 13-14, with The Quail taking place on Aug. 14 in Carmel Valley.
“Broad Arrow’s experienced team, premium car selections and strategic growth align perfectly with the continued evolution of our events,” said Kai Lermen, senior vice president of Peninsula Signature Events, the organization overseeing The Quail. “We look forward to bringing world-class auctions to our patrons for years to come.”
Broad Arrow is essentially moving from one Car Week luxury lifestyle event to another. Once known as McCall’s Motorworks Revival, the wine, food and automotive festival held at Monterey Jet Center has long been considered the kickoff of Car Week proper. The lifestyle and classic car insurance firm Hagerty took over the reins from Gordon McCall after the 2021 event, reimagining it as Motorlux.
As a startup in 2022, the company held its first-ever auction alongside the debut of Motorlux. One of the signature cars at the initial auction was Sean Connery’s personal Aston Martin DB5, the car associated with James Bond.
McCall is also behind The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, which began in 2003 as a meeting of classic car enthusiasts and has since grown into one of the world’s most anticipated automotive and lifestyle events. Sports car designers regularly use The Quail as a platform to unveil their newest vehicles.
“We very much look forward to seeing how this new partnership will elevate the experience for driving enthusiasts and collectors during the world-renowned Monterey Car Week,” Broad Arrow President Kenneth Ahn said.
Car Week 2026 takes place Aug. 7-16.
