Guy Fieri at From Scratch in Carmel

Guy Fieri and Robert Irvine with the nuclear From Scratch family.

What a Guy.

Right when you thought the landslide of caloric love from Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was over—after stops at local spots including Rosine's, Loulou's Griddle in the Middle, Cannery Row Brewing Company, Little Napoli, Wild Plum and Monterey Fish House—here comes another episode.

This one stars one of my favorite hidden spots for breakfast and lunch, From Scratch (625-2448) in the Barnyard Shopping Center in Carmel.

The episode airs 7pm tonight on Direct TV's version of the Food Network. With other cable channels it runs at 10pm.

A private viewing party for friends and family happens at Carmel Mission Inn in concert with the show.

In it Restaurant Impossible's Robert Irvine joins in the homespun foodie fun as Fieri and From Scratch owner Steve Grebing mix up a batch of cheddar cheese biscuits piled with the housemade sausage patty and matching sausage gravy.

The other dish featured, brisket chili with From Scratch's own chili powder, further plays into the theme of season 21/episode 3, "Cross-Country Classics."

For my part, I'm partial to the crab Benedict with poached eggs and homemade hollandaise over fresh crab meat, mushrooms and onions on a Wolferman’s English muffin.

But hey...I don't dye my hair with some sort of incredible secret recipe either. He's his own Guy.

In related news, From Scratch opened in 1977 as one of the foundational spots in the comely Barnyard complex. Steve and his wife Carolyn took over—and only made things tastier—in 1995.
