Mike Jones

Chef Michael Jones is hoping to bring the good and fun aspects of "The Store" to Douglas Ranch, and leave behind the bad ones—like flooding bathrooms and forest fires.

It's a thought for foodies to savor: Cachagua General Store is coming back, and so are its beloved Sunday brunches and Monday night dinners.

The longtime local institution, which closed at its Cachagua Road location in late 2016, is set to reopen a few miles west down Carmel Valley at Douglas Ranch.

Or at least, if all goes as planned, as Chef Michael Jones writes in a Facebook post: "We are so excited we can’t stand ourselves. It is early days, though and everyone needs to chill. The ink on the lease is not yet dry, the gas is not turned on, and the beer and wine license is in the bureaucratic cloud."

If everything does go as planned, Jones writes that he intends to bring back his same crew—"We miss each other, frankly," he writes—and bring in "good food from sources within arrow range."

The new joint will be named the Kitchen at Douglas Ranch, and Jones and his team will run the culinary program for the Camp at Douglas Ranch, which, when it opens this summer, will be a "high end, experiential retreat."

Jones adds that Sunday brunches and Monday night dinners open to the public will kick off "in the coming weeks…the roofers and Gov. Brown willing."

He writes that they will be invitation- and reservation-only, so no walk-ins, but adds, "not to worry…there is plenty of room and plenty of time for everyone."

Jones writes that they will probably start taking reservations at the end of next week.

Not being a gun enthusiast, I'm guessing that looks like an assault weapon being wielded by chef in photo. Is Douglas Ranch unsafe? Just who are you marketing to with such an image?
