Update: The Sunset Center has decided to scuttle the fall 2017 show with this announcement via Facebook:

"Sunset Center does not endorse or condone the activities or beliefs of any of its performers.

"Regarding the recent controversy with Kathy Griffin, we have heavily considered all factors involving a decision to cancel her performance on October 13.

"With Ms. Griffin's public apology and release of any further contractual obligation, we are now confirming 100 percent cancellation of the performance scheduled here."

Sunset Center, amid a calm sea of senior conservatives (and plenty of liberal-leaning locals as well), rarely sees a tidal wave of emotion like this on its Facebook page.

But people like Kathy Griffin and Donald Trump have been known to inspire unique emotions.

Here they unintentionally collaborate. They are likely thrilled at the teamwork.

After TMZ posted a photo of Griffin holding a severed head of Trump, it leapt to the top of trending stories on Facebook, just behind "Men investigating Ivanka Trump brand in China arrested…" and ahead of "Olivia Newton-John Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis."

Dozens locally are taking issue and calling for a cancellation of Griffin's Oct. 13 "Celebrity Run-ins" show in Carmel. (Begging the question: Will this make the bit, assuming the appearance survives?)

The performance venue's staff posted this in response on their Facebook page: "Sunset Center does not endorse or condone the actions of performers scheduled in our theater.

"We apologize for any angst this has caused any of our patrons or supporters. We are in contact with Ms. Griffin’s representatives and hope to have additional information soon."
