Residents escape safely after fire erupts at an apartment complex in East Salinas.

A unit in an apartment complex in East Salinas caught fire Thursday, Aug. 6, but police officers were able to evacuate residents in time and firefighters managed to put out the flames.

Around 10:45pm on Thursday, Aug. 6, the Salinas Fire Department got dispatched to a structure fire for an apartment complex on the second floor, located at 985 Acosta Plaza in front of the One Stop Market in East Salinas.

Salinas Police Department was able to arrive at the scene before firefighters and evacuated most of the residents from the building.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 10:50pm and were initially told a person was trapped inside the building, but confirmed nobody was trapped and everyone escaped safely, according to the Salinas Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within unit eight. No injuries or rescues took place, according to the Salinas Fire Department.

Three residents and two children were displaced and stayed somewhere else overnight.

At the scene on the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 7, the door to apartment number eight, is dark black instead of the normal brown from the aftermath of the fire.

The owners of the building, Mangold Property Management, were outside the apartment complex but did not want to share the specific damages to the apartment or give a comment to Salinas Valley Now.
